Primary teacher exam marks distribution under the 2025 rules
The official recruitment rules dated 28 August 2025 specify four written subject groups. Bangla and English carry 25 marks each; Mathematics and Daily Science carry 20 marks; and General Knowledge covering Bangladesh and International Affairs carries 20 marks.
The rules were amended on 2 November 2025. That amendment changed recruitment and qualification provisions in Rule 7 and Schedule 1; it did not replace the examination marks in Schedule 2 used in the table below.

Bangla grammar: language and grammar terminology, sound and letter, word formation, parts of speech, gender and number, কারক ও বিভক্তি, সন্ধি, সমাস, উপসর্গ, অনুসর্গ, প্রকৃতি ও প্রত্যয়, sentence structure, correct spelling, sentence correction, synonyms, antonyms, one-word expressions, idioms, proverbs and appropriate word usage.
Bangla literature: major periods of Bangla literature, important poets and writers, notable works and characters, pen names and titles, literary journals, genres, the Language Movement, Liberation War literature and nationally important literary facts.
Preparation priority: Build grammar accuracy first, then revise author–work, period and literary-identity facts through short recall tests.
English syllabus — 25 marks
English grammar: parts of speech, articles, number, gender, tense, subject–verb agreement, right form of verbs, prepositions, voice, narration, degree, transformation, sentence correction, clauses, phrases, conditional sentences, punctuation and translation fundamentals.
Vocabulary and literature: spelling, word meaning, synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, analogy, common foreign words, literary periods, major writers, famous works and basic literary terms.
Preparation priority: Keep a personal error list for prepositions, verb forms, spelling and vocabulary; these areas improve most through repeated correction.
Mathematics and Daily Science syllabus — 20 marks
Arithmetic: integers and fractions, decimals, LCM and GCD, unitary method, ratio and proportion, percentage, profit and loss, simple interest, average, age, time and work, pipes and tanks, speed–time–distance and basic data interpretation.
Algebra and geometry: algebraic expressions, factorization, indices, simple equations, sets, basic formulas, lines and angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, area, perimeter, volume and practical measurement.
Daily science and ICT: matter, energy, force, light, sound, electricity, environment, climate, food and nutrition, human body, disease and health, plants and animals, solar system, scientific instruments, common discoveries, computer basics, internet, data and digital safety.
Preparation priority: Practise calculations without a calculator and revise science through concepts and real-life applications rather than isolated facts.
General Knowledge syllabus — 20 marks
Bangladesh affairs: geography, rivers and resources, population, history, Language Movement, Liberation War, Constitution, government and administration, economy, national institutions, education system, culture, heritage, awards, sports and significant national developments.
International affairs: countries, capitals and currencies, geographic features, international organizations, treaties, global institutions, environment and climate, major conflicts and cooperation, awards, sports and important international developments.
Current affairs: Revise recent official developments relevant to Bangladesh and the world, but check the examination notice before deciding the current-affairs time range.
Primary teacher exam pass marks and negative marking
The official minimum written pass requirement is 50%, which equals 45 out of 90. The viva also requires 50%, or 5 out of 10. These are minimum qualifying marks, not a predicted appointment cut-off. The score needed to advance can vary with vacancies, candidate performance, district or upazila competition, merit order and the applicable recruitment provisions.
For the Assistant Teacher Recruitment 2025 written test, the examination instructions used a deduction of 0.50 mark for each wrong answer. That deduction is recruitment-specific; Schedule 2 of the rules itself does not set a permanent negative-marking rate for every future examination. Candidates must check the latest DPE examination notice and admit-card instructions before applying any rate.
Negative-marking calculation
When an examination notice sets a 0.50-mark penalty, calculate the net score as: correct-answer marks minus wrong answers multiplied by 0.50. For example, 70 correct answers and 10 wrong answers produce 65 marks: 70 − (10 × 0.50) = 65. Use this formula only when the applicable notice confirms the same penalty and question value.
What changed from the 2018 exam pattern?
The 2018 information below shows an 80-mark written MCQ examination and a 20-mark viva. Under the 2025 rules, the written examination carries 90 marks and the viva carries 10 marks. Bangla and English increased to 25 marks each, while Mathematics is now combined with Daily Science for 20 marks.
